Breaking the Mold for Alamance Burlington School System

At Frogman Interactive, we know our stuff when it comes to building immersive websites. But we also know how to think outside the box and when the Alamance Burlington School System approached us to develop an Online Career Guide to help students find career paths, we said “how many videos you want with that”?

CareerCluster4Me.com is not your usual non-linear website. It has a beginning and an end. And just like any good story we started with a BANG to keep our teen audience interested and focused. We chose to go with a “screaming-heavy-guitar-riffed” animation explaining the three different steps of the website. Robert Pattinson even agreed to do the narration! Just kidding. When the clip ends, our youngsters have the choice between taking a personality survey or browsing the site in a non-linear way to find out about the 16 Career Clusters the program offers.

Functionality is always a key element – if not THE key element – of any website. A linear approach is certainly not the way people are used to browse websites compared to a more traditional non-linear method, in which users are free to go wherever they want. To guide our web-savvy users through our website, each page was stuffed with clever ways to navigate from one section to another without having to scroll up and down manually or hit the back button.

Who doesn’t like breaking the mold from time to time? Not all websites can claim to have Electric Purple and Lime Green on the same page. At least we can now say one of ours does.
